MGM Resorts and its BetMGM brand are upping their efforts to promote responsible gambling among bettors.

Last week, the two companies announced several innovative partnerships, which aim to deliver key resources, advance efforts, and bolster initiatives to enhance support for those who experience problem gambling.

The news arrives as MGM Resorts, BetMGM, the National Council on Problem Gambling, and the industry as a whole mark March as Problem Gambling Awareness Month.

MGM Resorts is a major entertainment corporation, offering premium gambling products along with first-class hospitality. Meanwhile, BetMGM is an industry-leading sports betting and gaming operator jointly-owned by MGM Resorts and Entain Plc. Based in New Jersey, it operates in various licensed iGaming markets across the U.S.

Closer Look at the Initiatives

One of the announced collaborations includes the Kindbridge Research Institute in Massachusetts. Via the partnership, MGM Resorts will donate US$180,000 to the institution. The funds will be utilised to support studies on the impact of sports betting across various demographics. It will also be used to research new responsible gambling strategies.

The Kindbridge Research Institute is a nonprofit organization which focuses on research surrounding the mental health issues with gambling and other behavioral addictions. Its objective is to improve the lives and wellbeing of individuals who have been impacted by gambling-related issues.

Stephen Martino, Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at MGM Resorts commented:

“As a global gaming and hospitality leader, we are always looking to support innovative and actionable research that can make a positive impact. As our company continues to grow both domestically and internationally, these studies will allow us to support our industry and enhance the sustainability of communities in which we operate.”

In the meantime, BetMGM will work closely with the Kindbridge Behavioral Health and expand their referral program across the country. As part of the initiative, BetMGM players in all jurisdictions will gain access to Kindbridge’s specialized mental health services. Thus, providing crucial support for those who feel like they need help regarding their gambling habits.

Kindbridge Behavioral Health is a premier telehealth provider, combining top U.S. clinical counselors, research, and technology for comprehensive care. We address grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, and behavioral addictions, including gambling and gaming disorder, offering a safe space for healing and recovery.

Rhea Loney, Chief Compliance Officer at BetMGM said the following:

“Responsible gaming is a focal point of our operations, and we will continue to invest in programs that promote player protection and well-being. Expanding our partnership with Kindbridge ensures that essential support services are always within reach for those who need it.”

Relying on BCLC

One of the initiatives for both MGM Resorts and BetMGM will be powered by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation. In March, both companies will air a larger volume of messages from GameSense on their properties and digital platforms.

These messages will serve as a reminder to players to take time out from their gambling sessions. They will also include QR codes taking to responsible gaming resources. There will also be expert GameSense advisors at BetMGM Sportsbooks and MGM Rewards desks across their land-based locations. These trained professionals will provide help and support for those who need it.

BCLC is the sole provider of regulated gambling products in the Province of British Columbia.. The Crown corporation also runs PlayNow, which is the only regulated online gambling and sports betting website in the Western province. It also uses 100% of its profits to support the local economy.

Meanwhile, BCLC’s GameSense is a responsible gambling program which MGM Resorts has been relying on since 2017. It was also later embraced by BetMGM. The program is all about positive and proactive discussion with patrons on how to engage in gambling responsibly.

Reaching Students

The betting leaders are also looking to engage more students in the responsible gambling conversations. The two have teamed up with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and its Gaming Law. Via the sessions, students will be able to learn about the importance of responsible gambling in player experience. They will also hear on how to protect the long-term wellbeing of the sector.

Speaking on the partnership, Sarah Gonzales, Director of Graduate Programs, William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV shared this:

“Our collaboration with MGM Resorts has been a valuable learning experience for Boyd law students, enhancing their understanding of gaming regulations through real-world exposure. Exploring the GameSense program firsthand helps them grasp the importance of responsible gaming, especially as more jurisdictions require such important initiatives.”

Further Contributions

However, MGM Resorts’ and BetMGM’s initiatives do not end up with the UNLV collaboration. Here are the rest of the commitments from the companies’ recent press release:

MGM Resorts donates US$60,000 to affiliated State Councils on Problem Gambling. It will be used to aid and support problem gaming advocacy and prevent it.

BetMGM extends its partnership with EPIC Global Solutions. The latter is a popular problem gambling education consultancy agency, which offers various live-experience education to employees of BetMGM.

MGM Resorts and BetMGM will resume their collaboration with the American Gaming Association and its Have A Game Plan. ® Bet Responsibly.™ public service campaign

MGM Resorts and BetMGM remain committed to providing all of their employees with detailed and research-based responsible gambling training.

With the improved efforts to tackle problem gambling, both MGM Resorts and BetMGM are optimistic that their initiative will have a positive effect on the player base across the U.S. The two companies remain committed to promoting responsible gambling across all channels.
